Guldmann Ceiling Lift System

Body weight support system: What is it?

Body weight support (BWS) devices are tools used in rehabilitation settings to assist individuals in regaining mobility and strength after injury, surgery, or neurological conditions. These devices reduce the amount of weight a person bears during walking or other weight-bearing activities, allowing them to perform exercises and movements with less strain on their body.

Our ceiling lift harness system is a body weight support system for overground walking. Similar to treadmill systems, these devices use harnesses or suspension systems to reduce body weight while walking in a clinic or other settings, enabling individuals to practice walking with less effort and more stability.

Benefits of using body weight support devices in rehabilitation include:

Reduced Load on Joints and Muscles: By unloading a portion of the body weight, these devices can reduce stress on joints and muscles, allowing individuals to engage in exercises and movements they might not otherwise be able to do.

Increased Safety and Confidence: The support provided by these devices offers a safer environment for patients to practice walking and performing activities, increasing their confidence and motivation during rehabilitation.

Improved Gait and Mobility: BWS devices facilitate gait training and help improve balance, coordination, and walking patterns, which are essential for regaining mobility after injuries or neurological conditions.

Customizable Support: These systems often allow therapists to adjust the level of support provided, enabling a gradual increase in weight-bearing activities as the individual progresses in their rehabilitation.

While body weight support devices can be highly beneficial in rehabilitation, their use should be supervised by trained healthcare professionals. Proper adjustment, monitoring, and integration of these devices into a comprehensive rehabilitation program tailored to individual needs are essential for maximizing their effectiveness.
